About the Area
Life in Stockton
Stockton is an unincorporated community nestled in northern Baldwin County, Alabama, where the Tensaw River winds through the vast Mobile-Tensaw Delta — the second-largest river delta in the United States. With a landscape defined by centuries-old cypress swamps, winding waterways, and dense hardwood forests, Stockton offers a way of life that revolves around the land and the water. It is a place where neighbors know each other by name and the pace of life moves with the seasons rather than the clock.
The Mobile-Tensaw Delta is the crown jewel of the region, encompassing roughly 260,000 acres of wetlands, marshes, and bottomland forest. Often called “America's Amazon,” the delta supports an extraordinary diversity of wildlife including alligators, bald eagles, osprey, white-tailed deer, and more than 300 species of migratory and resident birds. For anglers, the delta's network of rivers and bayous produces largemouth bass, catfish, bream, and seasonal runs of speckled trout and redfish where fresh and saltwater merge.
Despite its remote feel, Stockton is surprisingly well connected. Interstate 65 runs just to the east, placing Bay Minette roughly 30 minutes away and the Gulf Coast beaches about an hour to the south. The new Novelis aluminum rolling and recycling plant under construction in Bay Minette is expected to bring over 1,000 jobs to the area, and many workers are already looking to Stockton and surrounding communities for affordable acreage and a short commute.
Nearby Blakeley State Park preserves the site of the last major battle of the Civil War and offers more than 3,800 acres of hiking trails, historic fortifications, and river access. For everyday needs, residents rely on Bay Minette and Daphne for shopping, healthcare, and schools, while enjoying the privacy and freedom that come with rural Baldwin County living. Stockton is, at its heart, a sportsman's paradise — a place for those who want room to breathe, land to roam, and water to explore.
